Amie's Success with the Gastric Sleeve Procedure

Amie Before and After the Gastric Sleeve Procedure

I have struggled with my weight nearly my entire life. I don’t recall any significant periods of my life where I was not dieting, planning on dieting or beating myself up mentally because of my weight. The thing is, I couldn’t ever keep the weight off. It always came back, and then some, and each time it got harder to make the same gains.

I generally believe myself to be a successful person, capable of achieving whatever goal I set for myself, but when it came to losing the weight, I always fell short. I was so discouraged and angry at myself and my body. My self-esteem was the worst it had ever been. My health was starting to head down a path I didn’t want to take. I had severe GERD, was considered pre-diabetic after battling uncontrollable gestational diabetes, and had a multitude of family history predispositions that were terrifying (diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, etc). I knew I needed to make a significant change in my life. So, I reached out to a good friend that had amazing success with the gastric sleeve and asked her about the experience and process. I started to do my own research and then talked with my spouse about what I was considering. With their support, I attended the seminar and then had my first appointment. Following that, I informed more of my immediate family and close friends and the level of support I received was incredible. It gave me the confidence I needed to make this decision for myself and my family. I didn’t come to this choice lightly, I knew it would require a whole lifestyle change. But, I also knew that I needed this tool to be there for my family in the way that I wanted for the long term.

I ultimately chose to have the gastric sleeve and it has been life-changing in all the best ways imaginable! I have my life back - I found the person that the weight was buried under! I’m more confident and comfortable in my own skin, my health is the best it has ever been, and most importantly I know I’ll be around for my family for a long time.
